Overview of the Biomedical engineering major
Biomedical Engineering
The major of biomedical engineering is a full-time Master’s &
Doctoral program for the graduates from science and engineering colleges. To foster biomedical researchers who can play a pivotal
role in the biomedical engineering after graduation by acquiring
new knowledge and research techniques from the biomedical filed
and participating in disease centered study, the following educational objectives have been made.
- Biomedical engineering major is a Master’s and Doctoral program for devoted researchers and developers who strive to be professionals leading creative innovations in the biomedical engineering and medical appliances technology sector. Just as engineering is to research and develop how to find solutions to problems by utilizing knowledge from basic science, Biomedical engineering is researching and developing engineering methods of finding solutions to a variety of new problems found and required in diverse medical aspects. Rapidly developing modern medicine continuously discovers new and diverse problems requiring biomedical engineering solutions, and biomedical engineers solving these problems are required to have a convergent mind to proactively acquire and experience a wide range of knowledge and technology. Even though there are well-established fields such as biomedical instrumentation, medical image processing, and biomechanics in biomedical engineering, in today’s unlimited convergence and innovation age, an even wider convergent thinking and knowledge is required for biomedical engineers. The biomedical engineering develops educational goals and programs pursuing innovation, convergence and continuous changes throughout the whole curriculum offered. Additionally, it offers students opportunities to develop themselves as professionals equipped with practical experience and knowledge from highly advanced medicine settings by allowing our graduate school students to cooperate with professionals from each field in Asan Institute of Life Sciences of Asan Medical Center to participate in developing biomedical engineering technology and medical appliances fused together with the most advanced clinical practices and cutting edge basic medicine study. This enables them to be the world class researchers with the highest level support including global leading curriculum jointly developed by the professional faculty covering the entire field of biomedical engineering, as well as diverse domestic and international exchanges and field trip opportunities.
Educational objectives
and goals
01 To foster creative thinking and researcher’s
quality by continuously acquiring the latest
research trends and expertise through education
and seminars concerning biomedical related basic
and applied learning
02 To enhance research capability by acquiring
experimental skills and problem solving skills
needed for basic, translational, and clinic
researches and learning the latest research methods
using state-of-art experimental equipment.
03 To have field-oriented practical competitiveness
to draw innovative discoveries and application
through the convergence education linking the
industry-university cooperation system.
04 To have a sense of duty in contributing to
human health by devoting themselves to the
research & development of biomedical science
on the basis of strong ethics as a researcher.
